Movilidad social y educación en Colombia

Abstract

La movilidad social, ha sido estudiada en América Latina desde hace varias décadas, toda vez que constituye una de las herramientas más eficaces en la lucha contra la pobreza y la desigualdad en la región. A pesar de ello, la falta de información estadística de larga data, no permite realizar estudios profundos y concluyentes con datos de panel que permitan obtener información de quienes rechazan su “herencia social” y por el contrario ascienden o descienden en la escala social. En este estudio analizamos los niveles de movilidad social en Colombia, a partir del nivel educativo de los padres y sus hijos, encontrando que los niveles de movilidad social se han incrementado en lo corrido del nuevo siglo, en comparación con los obtenidos en la segunda mitad del siglo pasado

Social mobility has been studied in Latin America for several decades, since it is one of the most effective tools in the fight against poverty and inequality in the region. Despite this, the lack of long-standing statistical information does not allow in-depth and conclusive studies with panel data to obtain information from those who reject their "social inheritance" and, on the contrary, ascend or descend in the social scale. In this study we analyze the levels of social mobility in Colombia, from the educational level of parents and their children, finding that levels of social mobility have increased in the course of the new century, compared to those obtained in the second half the last century.
