Conocimiento sobre transmisión del virus de inmunodeficiencia humana en adolescentes de educación pública y privada

Abstract

Conductas riesgosas. Según la constitución de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela no debe existir diferencias en la educación en diferentes instituciones. Objetivo: comparar el conocimiento sobre el VIH en adolescentes de educación pública y privada. Métodos: se realizó estudio prospectivo, transversal, comparativo, conducido desde la Unidad de VIH del Hospital de Niños “J.M. de Los Ríos” entre enero y marzo 2018. Se incluyeron adolescentes ≥ 14 años de una institución de educación privada y otra pública, ubicadas en el municipio Chacao (Caracas). La información se obtuvo mediante encuestas con preguntas cerradas que incluían transmisión por diferentes fluidos corporales, situaciones específicas, y forma de identificación de personas afectadas. Se registraron las respuestas correctas. El análisis estadístico incluyó la prueba de Chi Cuadrado. Resultados: participaron 295 adolescentes: 165 (56%) de escuela pública y 130 (44%) de privada. De las preguntas relacionadas con el virus, en 92,3% (24/26) las respuestas correctas fueron similares entre ambas escuelas. El restante 7,7% (2/26) presentó diferencias significativas, pero en ningún caso el porcentaje superó 90%. La única pregunta que obtuvo repuestas correctas en más de 90% de los alumnos de ambas escuelas fue la transmisión por relaciones sexuales vaginales sin preservativo, la cual representa 3,8% (1/26) conclusiones: el conocimiento fue similar en 92,3% de las preguntas en ambas instituciones. Sólo en el 3,8% de las preguntas hubo respuestas correctas en más de 90% de los alumnos

Introduction: knowledge about Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) on the part by adolescents can influence to avoid risky behaviors. According to the constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela there should be no differences in education in different institutions. Objective. to compare knowledge about HIV in adolescents of public and private education. Methods. It was done a prospective, cross sectional and comparative study which was conducted from the HIV Unit of the Hospital de Niños "J.M. de Los Ríos” between January and March 2018. Adolescents ≥14 years of age from a private and a public educational institution, located in the Chacao municipality (Caracas), were included. the information was obtained through surveys with closed questions that included transmission by different body fluids and specific situations, and form of identification of affected people. The correct answers were recorded. The statistical analysis included the Chi-square test. Results. There were included 295 adolescents: 165 (56%) of public school and 130 (44%) of private. Of the questions related to the virus, in 92.3% (24/26) the correct answers were similar between both schools. The remaining 7.7% (2/26) presented significant differences, but in no case did the percentage exceed 90%. The only question that obtained correct answers in more than 90% of the students of both schools was the transmission by vaginal intercourse without condom, which represents 3.8% (1/26). Conclusions. Knowledge was similar in 92.3 % of the questions in both institutions. Only in 3.8% of the questions were there correct answers in more than 90% of the students.
